Fairbanks Event Guide

When traveling to Fairbanks, be sure to experience the events the city has to offer. Everyone needs a little northern exposure. Fairbanks hosts a number of sporting events, musical and theater shows, and festivals throughout the year. In addition to these events, visitors can also purchase guided, bush plane tours to take in the sights Fairbanks has to offer.

From July 18th to August 1st, 2010, visitors to Fairbanks will be able to take in many different exhibits from local artists at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. The two, week-long festival features performance arts alongside spoken and visual works by local artists. There are ice skating shows, ballets, dance troupes, and musical groups throughout the two week period. The festival also has a number of paintings on display. There are workshops and classes to teach participants about the spirit of individual arts. The class aspect of the festival has made some call it the "Summer Camp for Adults." Musicians often drop their paint brush to learn how to play the drums, singers put down the microphone and pick up the paint brush to try their hand at watercolor painting, and dancers learn how to sing. It's truly a remarkable festival with a lot to offer visitors from every walk of life.

A world class symphony calls Fairbanks home, as do many basketball, hockey, and other sport teams. The city offers a variety of live musical shows, theater troupes, and ice skating shows throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy a hockey game or basketball game during their regular season. There are also many events unique to this part of the world, like the Snowshoe Training Run, The World Ice Art Championships, and the Gold Run - a dog sled championship race, where mushers from all over Alaska compete for their piece of fame.

The Fine Arts Complex located in downtown Fairbanks offers guests access to world class music and theater activities, including the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. The complex is part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. Travelers can also take in shows at the Empress Theater, Carlson Center, Financial Center, Light Opera Theater, and Davis Concert Hall.

If you plan a trip to Fairbanks, be sure to take in the Northern Lights, fine musical performances, and the two week festival featuring local painters, performers, and a variety of acts. Fairbanks offers a multitude of events throughout the calendar year.
